Diageo to host World Class UK final on plane
By Becky PaskinThe UK final of Diageo World Class will take place 35,000 feet in the air, testing bartenders with limited glassware, askew palates and turbulence.
The UK’s Diageo World Class finalists will compete aboard a British Airways flight to New YorkDiageo has partnered with British Airways for the event, and will hold the first stages of the final in the First Lounge at Heathrow Terminal 5.
The 10 shortlisted bartenders will battle it out in the airport lounge to win one of four places upon a BA flight to New York, where they will be asked to create a perfect in-flight cocktail at altitude.
Kate Thornton, head of product and service at British Airways, said: “Creating cocktails which taste as good in the air as they do on the ground with limited time, space and resources will be the ultimate challenge.”
On the return night flight to London, the finalists will need to create the ultimate luxury night cap cocktail with the best two crowned World Class UK Finalists. They will go through to the Western Europe finals to compete for a chance to appear in the global final on 4-9 July on board five-day cruise along the French Riviera.
“We are delighted to partner with British Airways – our shared values to provide money can’t buy experiences for our customers will raise the bar for this year’s Diageo Reserve World Class competition,” said Nick Temperley, head of Diageo Reserve Brands.
