Pernod to release oak-aged vodka Absolut Amber

Absolut Amber, a vodka aged using eight different woods, is set to launch in the US next month.

Absolut Amber, an oak-aged vodka, will launch in the US in April

The latest release from The Absolut Company is a 40% abv vodka that has been aged for a minimum of six months with a variety of wood, including ex-Bourbon barrels, American oak and Swedish oak, as well as a variety of roasted American and French oak chips.

Slated for an April launch in the States, Absolut Amber is described as having a warm amber colour with a “smooth, rich, slightly smoky taste”.

Carrying an RRP of $30 for one-litre, the vodka will be given a US travel retail launch over the summer months.

A spokesperson for Absolut told The Spirits Business: “Absolut Amber will create a whole new category of spirits and has been developed to appeal to vodka, whisky and rum drinkers.”

While aged vodka is still relatively sparse, brands such as Adnams has been producing it in limited quantities for several years, in the case of its Adnams Cooper House North Cove Oak-Aged vodka, which is matured in European oak barrels and bottled at 50% abv.

The Absolut Company recommends serving Absolut Amber neat, on the rocks, or with cola.
