Louisiana’s Bayou Rum set for summer launch
By Becky PaskinLouisiana Spirits is set to release its first two rums under the Bayou Rum brand, having almost completed its new distillery in Lacassine, LA.
Louisiana’s Bayou Rum will be released in JuneThe company’s first two releases will be the Silver Bayou Rum, produced in a traditional pot still using natural sugar cane grown in Louisiana and molasses, and the Spiced Bayou Rum, which is blended with natural Louisiana ingredients for a sweet and spicy flavour.
Both rums will be released in early June and distributed throughout the state by the Republic National Distributing Company.
“Louisiana was known as ‘The Bayou State’ while growing up on Contraband Bayou. Good memories inspired us to celebrate our state by naming our product Bayou Rum,” said Trey Litle, president of Louisiana Spirits.
“We’re proud to be part of the internationally renowned Cajun culinary culture. For us, it all starts with local ingredients. We’ve found the fresh raw materials to be a big differentiator in terms of taste. Louisiana molasses and the raw unrefined Louisiana sugar crystals we use, along with our historic “sugar house” recipe, have helped us to create more flavorful rums for sipping that’ll mix exceptionally well for cocktails too.”
The distillery will also feature a warehouse and 22-acre visitors centre, including a tasting bar and gift shop.
Louisiana is the second largest producer of sugar cane in the US.
