Jack Teeling considers Dublin Irish whiskey distillery

Jack Teeling, the former managing director of Cooley, has revealed plans to open Dublin’s first Irish whiskey distillery in almost 40 years.

Teeling, who launched his own Irish whiskey bottling company Teeling Whiskey Co last year, is exploring the opportunity to bring distilling back to Dublin for the first time since the John Power & Son distillery closed in 1976, with production merged into the new Midleton Distillery.

“At present the Teeling Whiskey Company is an independent Irish whiskey bottler but we aim to get back into the distilling game to ensure a consistent supply of whiskey for the future and allow us to be leaders in creating a bright new future for Irish and Dublin whiskey,” he said.

“We are at advanced stages of a feasibility study on bringing Irish whiskey distilling back to the heart of Dublin.”

The plans were announced last week as Teeling launched his latest bottling, Teeling Irish Whiskey, under new company The Teeling Whiskey Co.

A small batch release of grain and malt whiskey finished in rum casks and bottled at 46%, Teeling Irish Whiskey will be the company’s flagship release.

It will join Hybrid Edition 1 – a blend of 10-year-old single malts from Cooley and Bruichladdich distilleries leftover from the production of Celtic Nations – and an Irish Poitin.

Its launch marks 231 years of Irish whiskey tradition in the Teeling family, dating back to 1782.
