VIDEO: Watch Jack Daniel’s build London’s Christmas barrel tree
Visitors to London’s Covent Garden can now behold the 26ft Christmas tree made entirely of Jack Daniel’s whiskey barrels.
The Jack Daniel’s Christmas tree in Covent Garden, London, is made from 140 used whiskey barrels
It took 11 people two days to erect the tree, which features 140 used whiskey barrels from the Jack Daniel’s distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee.
Something of a tradition in its hometown, the tree’s presence in central London marks its first appearance outside the US.
The barrels were personally escorted to Covent Garden by three workers from the distillery in Lynchburg – Randy ‘Goose’ Baxter, Phil ‘Weejie’ Whitaker and Mark Lonardo – who between them have almost 100 years’ experience with the company.
The whiskey previously held in the Christmas tree barrels has been bottled and is available as the limited edition Jack Daniel’s Holiday Select 2012, of which there are just 3,000 bottles priced at £45.
The video below shows how much work has gone into building the tree, which involved fork-lift trucks and men rolling barrels by hand through the driving rain.
