Sales of Jameson reach four million cases
By Becky PaskinIrish whiskey Jameson has announced its annual sales have now reached four million cases, driven largely by its soaring popularity in the US.
Anna Malmhake, CEO of Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, toasts Jameson’s four million case milestone
According to Jameson owner Pernod Ricard, global sales grew by 15% during 2011/12, pushing its annual figure up from 3.8million cases to reach the landmark result.
Sales in the US, Jameson’s largest market, grew by 29%, with 49 states showing double-digit growth.
Pernod Ricard also claimed the brand had performed with “huge success” in its other key markets of Russia and South Africa, where Jameson is the second biggest world whiskey brand.
Anna Malmhake, CEO, Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard, said the result was a reflection of future potential of the group’s Irish whiskey portfolio.
“We are delighted and proud to have reached the four million cases milestone,” she said. “To think in 1988, when Irish Distillers joined Pernod Ricard, Jameson sold just 466,000 cases globally, with Ireland as its main market. Since then, Jameson has witnessed consistent and sustained investment, with a long-term strategic outlook based on premiumisation and innovation coupled with strong and targeted marketing. The result has been incredible global success with 50 markets now in double digit growth worldwide.
“I wish to pay particular tribute to everyone in Irish Distillers from the distillery in
Midleton, the bottling plant at Fox and Geese in Dublin, our Visitors Centres and our head office. It is through the support and dedication of our employees in the home of Jameson that this great Irish success story continues to grow.”
Earlier this year Pernod Ricard announced a €100m investment in expanding production at its Midleton distillery, plus a further €100m in a new maturation site in Dungourney, Co. Cork.
Jameson is currently the only Irish whiskey to sell over one million cases a year. Read our 2012 Brand Champions report for more information about its, and other brands’, rise over the past few years.
