By Becky PaskinBushmills is auctioning a guitar made from Irish whiskey barrels by Justin Vernon, Bon Iver frontman, for charity.
The Bushmills Guitar made by Justin Vernon
The 1608 guitar is a unique piece crafted by Vernon and master luthier Gordy Bischoff from American white oak used to age Bushmills whiskey.
The piece is being sold via auction website ebay.com, with proceeds going to The Confluence Community Arts Centre, in Vernon’s hometown of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
At the time of writing, bids had already exceeded US$8,200, with just under two days of bidding remaining.
“I was really happy to have this opportunity to work with Gordy on this collaboration,” said Vernon. “He’s an example of someone who’s stayed in Eau Claire and built an artisan career from the ground up. His guitars are not only world class, but from our area.”
The guitar has been made in collaboration with Bushmills for its ‘Busmills Brothers Since Way Back’ initiative, which celebrates the lives of artists and their close relationships with others.
The auction has been running since 22 October, and will end on 1 November. To view more images of the guitar or to place a bid, visit the auction page on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281003876062
