Success of Hong Kong Vinexpo indicates Asian growth
By Becky PaskinVinexpo Asia-Pacific 2012, Asia’s largest trade-only wine and spirits fair, has exceeded expectations with the largest number of exhibitors and visitors to date.
The three day fair, which ran from 29-31 May at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, saw 15,000 wine and spirit buyers and professionals visitors – a 2,500 increase on the previous record set in 2010.
Over 1,050 exhibitors from over 28 countries presented their products for visitors, 50% of which came from overseas markets.
The growth of Vinexpo Asia-Pacific is a sign that the spirits buying market in Asia is growing rapidly.
Robert Beynat, chief executive of Vinexpo, said: “The results from our annual IWSR survey were indicative of the growth of the Asia-Pacific market. Even during our lead-up promotional campaign in Tokyo, Seoul, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei and Hong Kong, I could already sense that the knowledge and sophistication of the markets had grown tremendously from two years ago, and this was reflected in the business buzz and atmosphere of this year’s show.”
