The fairer side of Cognac
By Dominic RoskrowThe BNIC is focusing its attention this year on making Cognac more appealing to the fairer sex.
The Bureau National Interprofessionnel du Cognac (BNIC) is set to welcome top mixologists, sommeliers and drinks retailers from the United Kingdom, the United Stated, France, Germany, Switzerland and Austria to discuss the “feminine” side of Cognac.
Each year The International Cognac Summit takes place in Cognac to consider an aspect of the drink. And between January 22 and 25, the 2012 Summit will explore how women perceive Cognac, what ingredients can be used to create Cognac cocktails that appeal to women, what women look for when drinking Cognac (whether straight or in a cocktail), amongst other things.
Participating retailers, bartenders and sommeliers from the United Kingdom in 2012 will include: Herchelle Perez-Terrado, spirits buyer from Waitrose, Richard Ellis from online retailer Slurp, Sophie Blatt – head bartender at Harvey Nichols, Matt Armitage – bartender from the London Cocktail Club, Andrea Bricarello head sommelier at Galvin Restaurants and Laure Patry head sommelier at Pollen Street Social.
