New master blender for Bowmore
By Dominic RoskrowOne of the whisky industry’s most respected and talented rising stars is to be the new master blender for Morrison Bowmore.
The distillery makes Bowmore, Glen Garioch and Auchentoshan.
Rachel Barrie has worked for some years alongside Glenmorangie’s whisky making alchemist Dr Bill Lumsden, and has played a major role in creating outstanding new expressions of Glenmoranghie including Signet and Finelata, and had a major input in to the company’s Bailie Nichol Jarvie blended whisky.
Now she has struck out in her own right and will undoubtedly raise the game as far as Morrison Bowmore is concerned.
She will fill the newly created position of master blender effective immediately and will also head up the company’s spirit quality control and laboratory functions.
Commenting on the appointment Andrew Rankin said: “Rachel is one of the most experienced master blenders in our Industry and I am extremely delighted that she will be joining our team here at MBD.
“We have a very strong blending team within the company and this appointment will massively strengthen and reinforce our commitment to producing the ultimate in quality single malt Scotch whiskies.”
