Stop Drop Vodka

Consumers are being urged not to drink an illegal brand of vodka, called Drop Vodka, which is believed to be available throughout the UK.

The product, which has been found to contain Propan-2-ol and methanol, as well as chemicals used in anti-freeze, as well as a cocktial of other dangerous substances, does not even contain enough alcohol to legally be called “vodka”, being only 28.6%, as opposed to the legal minimum of 37.5%.

The spirit is mostly available in small independent retailers, but there is a concern that pubs and clubs may have targeted, as well.

Colin Houston, head of incidents and food fraud for the Food Standards Agency, said: “We urge consumers not to buy “Drop Vodka”. It may be cheap, but people have got to ask if it is a price worth paying if their health could be at stake. We are working closely with local authorities to catch these criminals who are trying to profit by putting people’s health at risk.”

If anyone finds a bottle of Drop Vodka on sale they should call the Food Standards Agency Hotline on 0207 276 8527.
