G’Vine Gin Connoisseur 2011 announced
By Marinel FitzSimonsWorld’s best gin bartender 2011 – how’s that for a title?!
Gegam Ghazaryan of Xandom Bar in Alicante looks happy, and with reason, having just been named the G’Vine Gin Connoisseur 2011. Thankfully, the world-rated bartender’s drinks are easier to get your lips around than his name.
He beats hundreds of hopefuls from across the globe (36 different countries, to be exact) who have spent months competing for the title. The last 15 battled it out during an intense Finals Week which involved speed drink-making, blending your own gin, aroma exams as well as running their own cocktail bar during the G’Vine Summer Ball in Cognac.
The choice of Cognac as a location for the finals was not accidental given it is the birthplace of G’Vine gin which uses vineflowers as a key botanical.
Ghazaryan walks away with US$3,000, an intercontinental trip for two, and a platinum vineflower pin, not forgetting a year’s supply of gin for his bar as this year’s G’Vine Gin Connoisseur.
