Australian Whisky Holdings buys Nant Distillery

Tasmanian whisky distillery Nant has been acquired by private equity group Australian Whisky Holdings (AWY) for AUS$3 million.

The Nant Distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies

AWY has entered into a agreement with the Nant Group to buy Nant Distillery and Nant Estate property, taking ownership of all of the whisky production assets.

Founder of The Nant Group, Keith Batt filed for bankruptcy in February this year.

AWY will take on AU$5.5 million worth of Nant debts and liabilities, after due diligence.

Alongside Nant Distillery and Nant Estate, Batt also owns Nant Barrel Holdings and Nant Administration.

Nant Barrel Holdings manages an investment scheme with Nant whisky barrels held at the distillery warehouse to buy back the investors’ barrels at the end of the maturation period.

The company also currently has a 31.66% share in Tasmanian whisky company, Lark Distillery and a 12% share of the Redlands Estate whisky distillery.

There will be an independent audit and stocktake of all Nant assets, with the acquisition planned to be completed by the end of the year.

Nant Distillery opened in 2008, and produces a range of single malt whisky matured in American oak sherry casks, French oak port casks, American oak Bourbon casks, and French oak pinot noir casks.
