Johnnie Walker creates Colombia documentary
By Amy HopkinsJohnnie Walker Scotch whisky has teamed up with Bogotá’s Museum of Modern Art to create a documentary film featuring people from different sides of the Colombian civil war.
These are the people that feature in Johhnie Walker’s Keep Walking Colombia documentaryReleased to coincide with Colombian Independence Day on 20 July, Keep Walking Colombia charts the stories of five Colombians as they prepare to take part in the creation of a mass nude photograph by acclaimed artists Spencer Tunick.
More than 6,000 people who experienced the civil war posed nude at Bolívar Square, Bogotá, to make a stand for peace in Tunick’s art installation.
“We have facilitated the production of this documentary so that the inspirational stories of the Colombian people can be seen and heard by a wider audience,” said Daniel Leahy, global content director at Johnnie Walker.
In the film, former police officer Wilson Barreto stands with his friend Luis – the FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia) commander responsible for the bomb attack that caused him to go blind when he was 19.
Civilian victim Pilar Navarrete, ex-army officer Pablo Emilio Moncayo, ex-right wing paramilitary activist Ederlidia Garizao and former FARC combatant Maria Esperanza Sierra also feature in the film.
“Keep Walking Colombia tells the stories of five Colombians who, despite their history of conflict, believe in a better tomorrow,” added Leahy
“Working with Spencer Tunick has allowed us to tell these inspiring, human stories which highlight the bravery, the positivity, and the willingness of those affected by unimaginable tragedy and adversity to build a better tomorrow.
“And while this is a Colombian story, we believe the sentiment of optimism and positivity as a route towards progress is something that will resonate with people all over the world.”
In September last year, Johnnie Walker launched its Joy Will Take You Further campaign – the brand’s biggest to date and an extension of its long-running Keep Walking campaign – to offer a “new perspective on personal progress”.
