Four Pillars Gin readies for US launch
By Annie HayesAustralian distillery Four Pillars has started to distribute its gin portfolio in limited quantities across the US ahead of its official launch in September.
Each Four Pillars expression features botanicals indigenous to AustraliaFour Pillars was established in the Yarra Valley, Victoria in 2013; and is set to make its debut in New York and California beginning with the release of two of its flagship expressions.
Each Four Pillars expression features botanicals indigenous to Australia – predominantly whole organic oranges, which are cut into halves and placed in the still while distillation takes place, resulting in a citrus-forward finish.
Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin – the distillery’s first ever creation – also contains botanicals such as lemon myrtle and Tasmanian pepperberry leaf.
“The Rare Dry is our heart and soul, our essence,” said distiller and founder Cameron Mackenzie, “it is also 80+% of everything we do – it is a brilliant gin for G&Ts garnished, of course, with oranges, it makes a fabulous soft, refined martini and its lifted citrus character makes it a terrific cocktail base, too.”
Also making its US debut is the Four Pillars Navy Strength, with a lesser focus on citrus in favour of key botanicals Australian finger limes, fresh ginger and turmeric.
The brand’s philosophy is based upon what it has identified as the four key “pillars” of distilling – “magnificent stills, the best water in the world, exquisitely-sourced botanicals and good old-fashioned love”.
Four Pillars has also appointed Sam Ng as global ambassador, formerly the manager of Melbourne cocktail bar, Black Pearl, “a regular on any decent World Top 50 bar lists”.
Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin is bottled at 41.8% abv and will be made available at the RRP of US$38, while Four Pillars Navy Strength Gin is bottled at 58.8% and will retail at US$48.
