Dewar’s inspired by Bourbon for new release
By Amy HopkinsBacardi has launched a “Scotch produced in a Bourbon style” by using casks that have been scratched after charring for its latest Dewar’s expression.
Dewar’s Scratched Cask is finished in scratched charred American oak casksDewar’s Scratched Cask is a limited edition blend of up to 40 single malt and single grain whiskies that have matured in Scotland for at least four years.
This liquid is then transferred into American oak casks, made from a mix of Bourbon and virgin oak, that have been heavily charred and then lightly scratched. The whisky is then “finished” for a number of months.
“We are thrilled to continue to push the envelope in Scotch and create a bridge from one whisky category to the other,” said Dan Pilas, vice president and brand managing director for Dewar’s.
“Dewar’s Scratched Cask is not a hybrid, but different technique that combines the best of Scotch whisky and American whiskey know-how to create a new liquid that is smooth from start to finish.”
Dewar’s Scratched Cask is described by the brand’s master blender Stephanie Macleod as an “accessible” whisky with notes of vanilla, toasted oak and a hint of spice.
The limited edition is available from this month at an RRP of US$25.99.
Brand owner Bacardi entered the American whiskey sector for the first time in March this year with the acquisition of Angel’s Envy Bourbon.
