Savoy’s Beaufort Bar sends menu into space
By Amy HopkinsThe Savoy hotel’s famous Beaufort Bar in London has become the world’s first bar to send its cocktail menu into space.
The Beaufort Bar’s limited edition menu has been sent 34 kilometers above the Earth’s surfaceRecruiting the services of Sent into Space, the Beaufort Bar sent its new limited edition menu 36 kilometers above the Earth’s surface on board a “special balloon”.
The menu, of which there are only 1,000 copies, has been created by the Beaufort Bar in collaboration with Bacardi Brown-Forman to show brands including Grey Goose vodka and Bombay Sapphire gin.
“Since we began discussing the concept of our pop-up menu we have always spoken of the importance of it being a symbolic journey,” said head bartender Chris Moore.
“Since then it has literally been on its own journey; through design, completion, release and distribution across the globe. This got us thinking: what’s next? Space!”
Moore also decided to send a copy of the menu to all seven of the world’s continents, with only Antarctica waiting to receive its edition.
Last month, a new project to create “zero gravity” cocktails which can be enjoyed in space launched on crowd-funding website Kickstarter.
