Zero Gravity Cocktail Project seeks funding

A new project to create “zero gravity” cocktails which can be enjoyed in space is seeking expansion through crowd-funding website Kickstarter.

The Zero Gravity Cocktail Project is seeking funding on Kickstarter

Launched by San Francisco-based Cosmic Lifestyle Corporation (CLC), a group which designs domestic products for space, the Zero Gravity Cocktail Project is described as a “fluid dynamics and lifestyle experience design experiment”.

“We are creating an open air drinking container that allows you to enjoy the aroma of the drink, yet keep the fluids under control,” CLC said. “Your mouth completes the connection like a straw and you can suck the drink into your mouth.”

The group is now seeking to raise US$30,000 to test and launch the product, which has been created using a costly process of 3D printing. At the time of writing, funds of US$1,842 had been pledged.

“We are also hoping to inspire the idea of a future when space hotels are in orbit and settlements are on other planets that people can relax and enjoy the experience of a quality drink, no matter what the gravity,” CLC said

CLC aims to launch its product on board the International Space Station by October 2015. The project is being supported by the Space Frontier Foundation and the Space Tourism Society.

The “world’s first” levitating cocktail machine was unveiled last year, using sound waves to levitate droplets of alcohol drinkers can lick out of the air.
