BenRiach named as most inspirational business
By Becky PaskinThe BenRiach Distillery Company has become the only spirits producer to be recognised as one of the most inspirational British businesses by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) this year.
BenRiach Distillery Company, one of the UK’s most inspirational businesses, bought Glenglassaugh Distillery in 2013The LSEG names BenRiach on its annual 1000 Companies to Inspire Britain report, which recognises some of the fastest-growing and profitable small and medium-sized businesses in the UK.
Over 100 sectors are represented on the list, including manufacturing and engineering, and while many of the country’s food and drink operations are commended with an entry, BenRiach is the only spirits group.
Billy Walker, managing director of BenRiach, said: “It’s an enormous compliment and a very pleasant surprise to be included in this prestigious list.
“This achievement is testament to the hard work, passion and commitment of our people across our four sites.”
BenRiach Distillery Company produces a range of single malt Scotch whiskies across the BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh brands from three distilleries in Elgin, Forgue and Portsoy.
To be included on the list, BenRiach had to meet a set of criteria including being UK-registered, generating between £6-£250 million in the last 12 months, and to have been in operation for at least three years.
BenRiach generated turnover of £34.5m in 2014, an increase of 39.4% on the previous year.
Chancellor George Osborne said: “This is a remarkable list of outstanding companies. These businesses have been built by the drive, commitment and vision of Britain’s entrepreneurs and business leaders.”
Other food and drink companies recognised on the list include Mexican dining chain Wahaca, Aspall Cyder, and Brewdog.
