Jim Beam uses pre-Prohibition recipe for new rye
By Amy HopkinsBeam Suntory has released a new version of its Jim Beam Rye that uses a pre-Prohibition recipe to create a “bolder” taste.
Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Style Rye has been launched in response to demand for a “spicier” rye to complement cocktailsJim Beam Pre-Prohibition Style Rye is said to use one of the Beam family’s “oldest recipes”, giving it a “distinct spicy flavour” ideal for mixing with classic or contemporary cocktails.
“We’ve heard loud and clear from bartenders and whiskey fans that they are looking for a bolder Rye that stands up better in cocktails,” said Fred Noe, Jim Beam’s 7th Generation Master Distiller.
“We listened to this feedback, and know that the time is right to make history by taking a classic product that’s loved around the world and making it even better.”
The rye is described as having a spicy and warm flavour with notes of black pepper, vanilla and oak.
Bottled at 90-proof (45% abv), Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Style Rye carries an RRP of US$22.99 and will be available from select US retailers from this month.
In June last year, Jim Beam introduced its classic Rye to the UK due to the “growing demand for different styles of whiskey” in the market.
Meanwhile, the brand also built on its Signature Craft Bourbon line with a number of new expressions.
