Heston develops Cherry Bakewell vodka for Waitrose
By Becky PaskinCelebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has created a cherry bakewell-flavoured vodka for British supermarket Waitrose.
Heston Blumenthal’s Cherry Bakewell Vodka is the chef’s fourth drinks collaboration with WaitroseThe fourth drinks collaboration between the wacky chef and the supermarket, Cherry Bakewell Vodka is a blend of British sour cherry juice and pure amaretto extract with potato vodka from Chase Distillery.
The idea for the new vodka was developed after Waitrose saw sales of traditional English cherry bakewell tarts increase 131% off the back of TV shows like The Great British Bake Off and Sweets Made Simple.
Herchelle Perez-Terrado, Spirits Buyer at Waitrose, says: “This is our fourth drinks collaboration with Heston and each time, we’re wowed by the flavour combinations he comes up with. With aromas of stewed cherries and plums, and the flavours of almond, sour cherries and a deep dried fruit earthiness, this drink is sure to impress guests this winter.”
Previous expressions from Blumenthal and Waitrose have included Earl Grey and Lemon Gin, Spiced Mulled Cider, and Fruit Cup.
Blumenthal said: “I’ve always had a soft spot for old-fashioned desserts so by using nostalgic flavours, I wanted to create a grown-up treat that ultimately makes people smile. The comforting flavours of cherry and almond, alongside the home-produced ingredients, make it a truly British drink.”
The 40% abv flavoured vodka currently sells in-store for £24.50 per 700ml.
