Buffalo Trace buys land to make single estate Bourbon

Buffalo Trace will almost triple its land size with the acquisitionThe acquisition of the land, for an undisclosed sum, almost triples the size of Buffalo Trace’s footprint in Frankfort to 378 acres.
The new property includes around 100 acres of woodland, a farmhouse with barns and two ponds.
Although the Sazerac-owned distillery has no firm plans for the site yet, it does intend to plant corn, rye and barley from which it will make its own Bourbon and whiskey.
Harlen Wheatley, master distiller of Buffalo Trace, which is a National Historic Landmark, said: “We are excited about the many possibilities this additional acreage will present to us and look forward to laying out some plans for the future.”
The group would not comment on which brand the new crops would be used for, nor whether a new “farm-to-table” brand would be created.
