Iggy Pop launches clothing line with Sailor Jerry
By Becky PaskinSailor Jerry has collaborated with ‘70s icon Iggy Pop on a unique clothing range inspired by Norman “Sailor Jerry” Collins’ tattoos.
Punk rock star Iggy Pop in his bespoke Sailor Jerry sleeveless denim jacketThe Flash Collection by Iggy Pop, which was announced earlier this year, features a blue-black 1950s-style sleeveless denim jacket adorned with a Sailor Jerry anchor and the words “Death Shall Triumph” as its centrepiece.
The jacket, of which there are just 50, comes with a set of six flash design patches inspired by the tradition of outlaw motorcycle gangs.
According to William Grant & Sons, owner of the Sailor Jerry spiced rum brand, Iggy Pop chose the sleeveless jacket because it is his “preferred garment for situations when he can’t be shirtless, his preferred state”.
The collection also features 100 leather belts with a buckle designed in the shape of a shark rising from the sea.
Iggy Pop said: “I dig Norman’s tattoo designs and totally wanted to bring to life his awesome flash art in a clothing range. This is my first time designing a clothing collection.”
The collection will be available through sailorjerryclothing.com, as well as select retailers around the world.
It follows the collaboration between Sailor Jerry and Paul Simonon, of the Clash and Gorillaz last year.
