Work begins on Dublin Irish whiskey distillery
By Becky PaskinWork has begun to build Dublin’s first new distillery in over 125 years, which is scheduled to open in the city before the end of the year.
The Teeling Whiskey Distillery is on-track to be completed by the end of the yearThe €10m Teeling Whiskey Company (TWC) Distillery will be located in Dublin’s Newmarket in The Liberties.
Spearheaded by Jack Teeling, founder and managing director of TWC, the distillery will have the capability to produce 500,000 litres of whiskey annually through three copper pot stills.
Teeling said: “We are proud to be returning to our ancestral distilling roots which trace back to 1782 in The Liberties. This project brings distilling back to an area of Dublin long associated with world class whiskey which, at one stage, had 37 different operational distilleries and was known as the ‘Golden Triangle’ due to the cluster of Irish whiskey manufacturers in one small area.
“Dublin whiskey was at the forefront of the last golden age of Irish whiskey. We aim to revive the Spirit of Dublin by putting Dublin and Teeling Whiskey firmly back on the map again.”
TWC Distillery expects delivery of the three stills in October, and the first distillation run to take place before the year is out.
The site will also feature a visitors’ centre, due to be completed in early 2015, designed to educate consumers of the area’s whiskey heritage, the distilling process and whiskey tastings.
