Companies create ‘world’s first’ sloe gin ice cream
By Melita KielyThree UK food and drink companies have banded together to create what they claim to be the “world’s first” sloe gin truffle ice cream.
UK traders claim they have created the world’s first sloe gin truffle ice creamBased in North Yorkshire, SLOEmotion, Brymor Dairy and Hunters of Helmsley created the ice cream, which is made from a vanilla base, using whole Guernsey milk from Brymor’s own herd of cows, slow fruit ganache and crunchy dark chocolate chips.
The ganache is made from sloe gin, cream, butter and white chocolate, made by SLOEmotion.
“It’s always a pleasure to partner up with other local companies who share out love of great food and drink,” Jonathan Curtoys, managing director at SLOEmotion told The Northern Echo.
“As we are the only producers of slow gin chocolate truffles in the world, I believe that this is definitely the only flavour of its kind being produced commercially.
“Instead of throwing the fruit away after making sloe gin we de-stone it and then use it to make a range of chutneys and ganache for different truffle chocolates, so the thought of using it for ice cream seemed quite natural.”
The sloe gin ice cream will be available throughout the summer exclusively from Hunters deli in Marketplace, Helmsley, North Yorkshire.
