Whether you’re a fan of Bourbon, Scotch, Irish or Canadian whisky, this list of the top 10 international events for World Whisky Day is sure to have something for youWhile here at The Spirits Business, every day is whisky day, whisky fans across the globe will be raising their favourite drams this 17 May for World Whisky Day.
From Scotch to Bourbon, Irish to Canadian, Japanese to Australian, whiskies of all varieties, creeds, ages and terroirs will swipe the spotlight.
Launched by Scottish graduate Blair Bowman in 2012, this year’s World Whisky Day promises to be the biggest and best so-far. Celebrations of Scotch in particular have received an extra boost by Homecomng Scotland – an initiative created to promote Scotland ahead of the Ryder Cup and Commonwealth Games, both of which are set to take place in the country this year,
“This is a key year for World Whisky Day,” said Bowman. “Scotland is celebrating Homecoming, the Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, as well as Whisky Month in May. Given all that, next year’s World Whisky Day is going to be bigger than ever, with events taking place all around the globe.
“I would love to see people who have never tried whisky having their first dram on World Whisky Day – it is the perfect opportunity.”

World Whisky Day launch Ceilidh – Aberdeen, UK
World Whisky Day will be formally launched in Aberdeen with a Ceilidh – a traditional Gaelic celebration involving much music and dancing – on Friday 16 May.
Taking place at the Aberdeen Music Hall, the event will feature music by Ceilidh band Ghillie Dhu Music, raising money for the charitable scheme Just a Drop.

Whiskies of the World, Unite! – Indiana, US
Whisky fans in Indiana should head to Carmel to experience the Whiskies of the World, Unite! event, where over 150 different bottlings will be uncorked.
Orgnanisers say: “From the hills of Kentucky to the Highlands of Scotland, from the fields of France to the coast of Japan, you will have the opportunity to expand your palate and your appreciation for all things whisk(e)y.”

The Whisky Show – Sydney, Australia
Presented by World of Whisky, The Whisky Show 2014 will take place on Friday 16 and Saturday 17 May 2014 at the Stamford Plaza Sydney Airport, O’Riordan Street, Mascot.
A key part of the celebrations of World Whisky Day, The Whisky Show features 24 exhibitors and around 160 different types of whisky across over 50 brands from around the world.
Brand ambassadors and whisky producers will be on hand to chat about anything to do with whisky, while visitors are also able to purchase the whiskies from the World of Whisky Satellite Store at the show.

Auchentoshan Whisky Lounge – Glasgow, UK
Highland Scotch whisky brand Auchentoshan will be running a Whisky Lounge in partnership with Glasgow’s leading shopping destination, Princes Square.
Across three spirited days of single malt tastings, shoppers will be invited to sample Auchentoshan Classic, Three Wood and 12 Year Old.
At the same time, a photography exhibition called ‘Taste of Glasgow Culture’ will launch at the centre and will run until 23 May.

Wold Whisky Day at the Lark Distillery – Tasmania, Australia
In Tasmania, whisky fans have the opportunity to sample the drams produced by the Lark Distillery, as well as those produced around the world, inside the vicinity itself.
All visitors to the distillery will be given a dram on arrival, and will have the opportunity to enjoy live music, food vans, haggis, lucky door prizes, mini-master classes and tastings.
There will be a masterclass with Chris Thomson, head distiller at Lark, costing AUS$25, and a sampling of eight whiskies from around the around costing AUS$80.

World Whisky Day Feast Fair – Edinburgh, UK
Hosted by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society and its recently launched month-long Clans & Drams event at Edinburgh’s The Vaults, this food and drink fair will see rare Scotch whiskies paired with some of the very finest in Scottish food, beer, cocktails.
Taking place on 17 May, the event features stalls with produce from Inveralmond Brewery, The Buffalo Farm, Findaly’s haggis, I J Mellis cheese, Crombies, Caorunn gin and Stuart Mccluskey.
Entry is free, but tokens cost £5.

Milroy’s of Soho 50th Anniversary tasting – London, England
London wine and whisky retailer Milroy’s of Soho will be open for sampling several rare bottles of our famous single cask bottlings on 17 May, iincluding Caol Ila 1989, Highland Park 17 years old, and Macallan 1990.

Whiskey for Women – Albany, US
Presented by the University Club of Albany Foundation, the Whisky for Women event in New York state’s Albany is said to feature an “exclusive, expert-led tasting and discussion of whisky – with a twist”.
New York author and whiskey expert Meghan Leary will present Whiskey for Women, showcasing the American Whiskey Collection from Heaven Hill Distilleries – seven spirits in total.
The tasting will feature: Evan Williams Kentucky Straight Bourbon; Evan Williams 1783; Evan Williams Single Barrel Bourbon; Bernheim Straight Wheat Whiskey; Larceny Wheated Bourbon; Elijah Craig 12-Year-Old Small Batch Bourbon; and Henry McKenna Bonded Single Barrel Bourbon.

Victoria Highland Whisky Games ‘Whisky School’ – Victoria, Canada
The Victoria Highland Games Association is once again holding its “Whisky Tasting School” on May 17 and 18 May at the 151st Victoria Highland Games & Celtic Festival in Topaz Park.
Guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a “Scottish educational and cultural experience”, as well as embark upon a whisky trail.
Featured Scotch whiskies include Sherry cask-aged bottled of Glenfarclas and The Macallan.

Marrying Malts and Molecules – Glasgow, Scotland
Taking place at the historic Merchants House of Glasgow, the Marrying Malts and Molecules event is said be the first of its kind in the city, where guest are taken on a ‘Grand Sensory Tour’
It is a unique combination of Scotch, cocktails, Scottish produce molecular canapes, science and technology. Attendees embark on a sensory tour which will help them “debunk a few myths” about whisky and find out if they are a supertaster.
