Dedicated .vodka domain name to launch

A new domain name dedicated to vodka – .vodka – has been created for vodka enthusiasts, brands and marketers.

Vodka brands will soon be able to further target consumers when a .vodka domain launches next week

The domain has been created to group together and offer specific online identities for those involved in, or passionate about, the vodka industry.

“We believe .vodka will become the web-ending of choice for all those associated to the industry or who are passionate about the heritage of vodka as we know from how internet usage has evolved that people naturally want to be grouped, identified and found by terms that they believe best describes them – a .vodka address does exactly that,” said Antony Van Couvering, CEO of Minds and Machines, the registry operating .vodka.

Website addresses will be available within the .vodka domain will be available from 15 April.

Those wanting to apply for website within the domain can do so at mindsandmachines.com for a 60-day period.

At the end of the time period – known as the “Sunrise” for trademark holders, and “Landrush” for the general public – .vodka addresses will be issued

Duplicate applications for the same website address will then be invited to auction, with the address set to be given to the highest bidder.

“A .vodka web address ending sends a clear signal to people and search engines that the website behind the name is all about vodka,” continued Couvering.

“It’s a great opportunity to get a clear and descriptive domain name instead of jostling for a second-best name in an overcrowded space like .com.”

The website for Russian Standard Vodka was recently listed by Sedo as one of the most expensive domain names purchased in the last 25 years, joining sex.com and pizza.com.
