Singapore hands fake Smirnoff over to Diageo

More counterfeit bottles of Smirnoff vodka seized in Singapore will be destroyed just weeks after health authorities warned of fake bottles of the brand in Ireland.

Over 77,850 bottles of fake Smirnoff vodka have been given back to Diageo by Singapore Customs

As reported in Straits Times, Singapore customs handed 77,850 empty counterfeit bottles of Smirnoff vodka over to the brand’s owner Diageo following a court order to destroy them.

Officials also handed over 18 boxes of bottle caps and 10 boxes of labels.

The items were seized in June last year at a cargo distribution area called Keppel Distripark having been shipped across from a neighbouring country.

Singapore Customs claimed they suspected the items had been earmarked for transportation to another country for illegal bottling and selling.

This news follows a recent warning issued by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) for consumers and bars to be vigilant after officials discovered bottles of counterfeit Smirnoff vodka in the country.

The “small amount” of counterfeit spirit was found following a tip-off from the UK’s Food Standard Agency.
