The Macallan 1824 Series gets Oz launch
By Amy HopkinsThe Macallan 1824 Series has been unveiled in Australia this week as the brand continues to extend its global reach.
Australia will receive Amber, Sienna and Ruby bottlings from The Macallan 1824 SeriesThree expressions in the collection, Amber, Sienna and Ruby, are no-age-statement malts defined by the Speyside distillery according to colour, as opposed to age.
According to The Macallan whisky-maker Bob Dalgarno: “The Macallan world of colour is the true inspiration of the 1824 Series. Using colour to drive and define a whisky differs dramatically from the conventional age approach, allowing us to explore different casks and take a more flexible approach to our stock.
“For me, the key thought in this range is that a great single malt doesn’t need to be 30 years old to taste like a 30 year old.”
The casks chosen for the range deliver a gradation of colour from light to dark, with the wood character defining each expression’s flavour. As the whiskies become darker and richer, so the pool of casks able to deliver this character becomes smaller and rarer.
The series was unveiled in Australia for the first time earlier this week at the Shangri-La Hotel.
Distributed by Beam Global Australia, The Macallan 1824 Series will roll out across the country from this month.
The Macallan 1824 Amber, has an RRP of AU$105 per bottle, Sienna will retail at AU$160 per bottle and Ruby carries an RRP of AU$220 per bottle.
Australia has yet to receive The Macallan 1824 Gold and The Macallan M, an expression bottled in Lalique crystal which launched in the UK last month following an initial unveiling in Hong Kong.
The Macallan 1824 Series initially launched in the UK in April this year.
