By Becky PaskinGlenfiddich has released a single cask of 29 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky in honour of the UK team competing in the Walking with the Wounded South Pole Allied Challenge.
Glenfiddich Spirit of a Nation has been released to support Walking with the WoundedThe whisky – named Spirit of a Nation – has been produced as part of the brand’s sponsorship of Team Glenfiddich, a team of four wounded serviceman and women who departed for a race to the South Pole yesterday (17 November) alongside Prince Harry to raise money for charity Walking with the Wounded.
Just 250 bottles of the limited edition whisky have been produced, with 200 available to specialist and high-end on- and off-trade accounts in the UK.
Two bottles have been presented to Team Glenfiddich ahead of their expedition, with one reserved for the arrival at the South Pole, and the other due to be signed by the team and returned to the UK for auction.
Aged for 29 years in a single refill Sherry cask, the liquid has been finished for three months in an American oak cask.
Sarah Harding, Glenfiddich senior brand manager, said: “Hand-selected by malt master, Brian Kinsman, Spirit of a Nation is an exceptional and extremely rare Glenfiddich, and a testament to the world’s most awarded single malt Scotch whisky.
“Releasing the special edition now is an ideal way to honour the courage and strength of Team Glenfiddich, and we’re proud to be donating the proceeds to Walking with the Wounded.”
To coincide with the challenge and the new release, UK distributor First Drinks has also launched a new marketing campaign named Every Step of the Way, which will raise awareness of Walking with the Wounded across city centre digital advertising boards, London Underground billboards, and adverts in national newspapers.
First Drinks is also offering a free expedition water flask to consumers who purchase a dram or bottle of Glenfiddich in the on- or off-trade during the campaign.
Spirit of a Nation is available to buy now at an RRP of £1,000.
