Kenny Dalglish creates whisky series with Gordon & MacPhail
Scotch maker Gordon & MacPhail has partnered with Scottish football icon Sir Kenny Dalglish on a rare whisky series, titled Vintage Moments.
Scotsman Dalglish is recognised as one of football’s greats through his time as a player at both Celtic and Liverpool, and then through his latter managerial career.
The Vintage Moments series marks key moments of his life and career through five ‘ultra-rare’ single malts selected from the family-owned business’s ‘liquid library’, which includes one-off Scotch whiskies from more than 100 distilleries.
Elgin-based Gordon & MacPhail worked alongside Dalglish to curate the lineup with each single malt distilled across five years that represent pivotal moments of his life.
Each expression is hand-drawn, bottled at cask strength and with only one in existence.
Dalglish said: “I was delighted when Gordon & MacPhail approached me to celebrate my vintage moments. The experience of selecting specific single malts to share with others was an incredible memory in itself.
“I’ve been lucky enough throughout my life to have had some fantastic moments and narrowing these down to five pivotal years was not easy. But I am very much looking forward to the forthcoming release and sharing the stories behind my selections.”
The series will be available for sale from October and will consist of 15 box sets containing five 700ml bottles of the vintage single malts chosen by Dalglish.
In addition, Gordon & MacPhail will extend the collection to a very small number of private clients each year, who will be able to sample single malts and select five from pivotal years in their life.
The company’s director of prestige and fourth-generation family member, Stephen Rankin, added: “It is a source of immense pride to be the only Scotch whisky company in the world to have stocks from every vintage going back as far as 1948.
“Many of these whiskies were laid down by grandfather, George Urquhart, who has been called ‘the father of single malt’.
“This legacy allows Gordon & MacPhail to create exclusive, personalised box sets for our private clients and it’s a pleasure to kick off with Sir Kenny’s Vintage Moments just ahead of this summer’s World Cup.”

Last year, Gordon & MacPhail revealed the ‘world’s oldest’ single malt Scotch: an 85 year-old whisky presented in a decanter titled Artistry in Oak.
