The Glenlivet debuts Cask Master’s range in GTR
By Rupert HohwielerChivas Brothers-owned The Glenlivet has released a three-strong whisky collection for global travel retail (GTR) that celebrates its cask master Kevin Balmforth.

The Glenlivet Cask Master’s Collection consists of three single malts from the Speyside distillery: 14, 16, and 19 Year Old.
The whiskies were selected by Balmforth, who said: “With these three distinctive expressions, we have concentrated on what makes our single malt Scotch whiskies stand out: the mastery of the makers, the character of our stills, and above all, the smoothness of our liquid.
“By honouring our heritage while continuing to push the boundaries of flavour with carefully selected casks, we’ve curated a collection that is a quality expression of Speyside whiskies.”
The Glenlivet 14 Year Old was matured in American and European oak. It has notes of baked apple and citrus zest, while the blue gradient of its design takes after the crystal waters of the River Livet. The whisky is priced at US$85.
As for The Glenlivet 16 Year Old, this whisky has been aged exclusively in 100% American oak casks. Its profile is described as ‘sweet’ and ‘creamy’, backed up by notes of toffee and ripe plum. The whisky has red packaging, inspired by the sunset in Speyside, and a price tag of US$120.
Lastly, The Glenlivet 19 Year Old is described as the ‘pinnacle’ of the trio. The selective finish in Scottish oak is said to be a first for the brand, and pays tribute to the land around the Glenlivet.
The oak is rare and the trees grow slowly because of the environmental conditions in Scotland – reaching maturation between 120 and 150 years – which the brand explained makes the grain tight and porous, and the whisky’s flavour rich in spice.
The 19-year-old whisky retails for US$140 and its packaging is designed after the changing hues of Scotland’s forests.
In addition to the whisky releases, the Cask Master’s Collection also reveals an evolved contemporary design for The Glenlivet. The revamped look features a new brand monogram with on-pack wave graphics that reflect the meaning of The Glenlivet, which is ‘the valley of the smooth flowing one’.
The collection is available exclusively in GTR locations worldwide.
This month, the brand has also kicked off its new Beyond Speyside series, while its Spira 60 Year Old – its oldest whisky – fetched £650,000 (US$866,724) at the Distillers One of One auction.
