Aberlour debuts limited edition A’Bunadh collection

Chivas Brothers’ single malt brand Aberlour has launched a limited edition Sherry cask collection for its high-ABV A’Bunadh whisky.

Aberlour A’Bunadh Edition One is finished in first-fill oloroso and Pedro Ximénez Sherry casks

The collection aims to showcase the influence of Sherry cask maturation on A’Bunadh.

Created by master distiller Graeme Cruickshankhe, the Edition One in the series is offered at 56.2% ABV. This is finished in two types of first-fill Sherry casks – oloroso and Pedro Ximénez – chosen for their ‘quality, aromatic profile, and rich, nuanced characteristics’.

Cruickshank commented: “The Aberlour A’Bunadh Sherry Cask Collection represents a significant milestone, not just building upon the beloved Aberlour A’Bunadh tradition, but boldly pushing the frontiers of Sherry cask influence.

“This new release is a powerful testament to our unwavering commitment to quality and innovation, offering whisky enthusiasts a rare, unmissable opportunity to experience the profound depth and complexity that a 100% first-fill Sherry cask finish can truly deliver.”

Bottled at natural cask strength and non-chill filtered, the releases are said to preserve the whisky’s character, aroma, and mouthfeel with a distinctive maturation style and premium packaging.

Upon entry, Edition One presents aromas of red apples, blackberries, sultanas, caramel wafers, demerara sugar, cinnamon, and stem ginger. The palate reveals notes of blackcurrant, spiced pears, vanilla toffee, sticky dates, raisins, oak spice, and star anise.

Every new release in the collection will showcase a variety of Sherry finishes.

Aberlour A’Bunadh Sherry Cask Collection Edition One will be available in select markets starting in October, with a suggested retail price of £95 (US$128).

Earlier this year, Aberlour released a trio of new single malts for the global travel retail market.
