Penrhos premieres £20,000 TV ad with Sky

Herefordshire-based gin producer Penrhos Spirits has launched a month-long TV advertising campaign across Sky’s network of channels.

The ad, created via Sky by local Herefordshire production company JRNVisuals, features Penrhos Spirits’ farm distillery and the two farming families that created and run the business today.

Penrhos Spirits was selected as one of eight winners from hundreds of applications to the Sky Zero Footprint Fund: Local Heroes initiative, which champions small businesses driving positive environmental change in their communities.

Each of the winning businesses was awarded a £20,000 (US$27,321) regional TV advertising campaign, along with up to £2,500 (US$3,415) in creative production support through AdSmart from Sky.

Via targeted TV advertising, Penrhos will now be able to connect with the ‘right audiences’, raise awareness of its mission, and grow its impact.

Sky’s selection panel is said to have been particularly impressed with the distillery’s comprehensive approach to sustainability.

The month-long campaign, running from today (4 July) to 4 August, showcases the family-run distillery’s approach to tackling food waste and its switch to 100% recycled aluminium bottles, which has reduced its packaging carbon footprint by 91%.

It also tells the story of turning its ‘imperfectly perfect wonky fruit’ into award-winning gin, and features the brand’s new strawberry expression – a limited edition variant that has launched in time for this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament.

Harriet Evans, co-founder of Penrhos Spirits, said: “Creating the advert and then seeing our family farm’s story come to life on screen has been incredible. This campaign allows us to share our mission to rescue wonky fruit and craft exceptional gin with a much bigger audiences across the UK. Having our 100% recycled aluminium bottles and sustainability story showcased on Sky’s TV channels is a dream come true for our small family business.”

The campaign forms part of Sky’s ongoing commitment to contribute to a low-carbon economy and inspire positive change for the planet, using its TV platform to raise awareness of the climate crisis and mobilise others to take action.

David Sanderson, director of AdSmart Local and development at Sky Media, said: “Penrhos Spirits exemplifies everything we look for in our Local Heroes programme. They’re raising the bar for sustainability while proving that environmental responsibility and business success go hand in hand. We’re proud to support them in reaching the right audiences with targeted advertising that will help drive real, transformative change.”

James Newby, producer at JRNVisuals, added: “Filming the TV advert for Penrhos Spirits was an absolute pleasure. From capturing their beautiful countryside distillery to showcasing how they turn wonky fruit into award-winning gin, every moment was creative and fun. The team at Penrhos were a joy to work with, and their passion for quality and sustainability really came through on camera. We’re proud to have helped share their story on screen.”

Through AdSmart from Sky’s innovative targeted TV platform, the campaign will target local and regional audiences, helping to raise awareness of Penrhos Spirits’ sustainability mission and inspire more consumers to choose eco-friendly products. It will also highlight the new Penrhos summer discount in Sainsbury’s where a bottle of gin will be discounted from £30 (US$41) to £24 (US$33) until 23 July.
