Stray brings back International Women’s Day menu

Manchester bar Stray has collaborated with local female bartenders to create an International Women’s Day (IWD) menu for a second year.

Last year’s menu featured 10 drinks by 10 women, including Stray’s own Fran Cruse and Becky Davies of Pod Pea Vodka.

This year the menu features nine Martini variations by nine women, served alongside food from Danielle Heron, the chef-patron of Manchester restaurant Osma.

Dishes include Carlingford Oysters with a choice of dressing; mini pastry tart filled with beef tartare, coal oil, avruga caviar and chive; and brioche toast with cheese mousse, black garlic jam and walnut caramel.

Cruse said: “We operate in a city and industry full of incredibly talented females who we’ve been lucky enough to become friends with; getting them all in one room and on one menu for International Women’s Day felt like the perfect way to mark the occasion and showcase their talent and passion.”

Cocktails on the menu include the Cold Snap, created by Ego Death’s Cressida Lawlor. The serve blends Sapling Gin, Rinquinquin peach apéritif and lemon and lime water.

Stray’s Ellen Roberts has come up with the eponymous Melon Roberts, featuring condensed milk Sapling Vodka, melon vermouth and sansho pickled melon, while 10 Tib Lane’s Manjari Kesavan has opted for a culinary-inspired serve, the Curry Leaf Martini, made with mustard seed, chilli, coriander vodka, dry vermouth, saline, pickle and curry leaf oil.

Meanwhile Schofield’s Bar’s Rachel Orange has based her drink, named Conference, on pears, featuring vodka, textures of pear and citrus cordial.

The menu will be available on 4 March from 5pm, with the evening soundtracked by Manchester DJ Mix-Stress.

To mark International Women’s Day (8 March), The Spirits Business will host an evening of discussions and celebration surrounding women in the hospitality industry on 6 March.
