Our Whisky Virtual Festival set to return
By Melita KielyThe second Our Whisky Virtual Festival will commence later this month with all proceeds to be donated to industry charity The Drinks Trust.
The Our Whisky Virtual Festival launched in 2020 in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and raised more than £12,000 (US$14,774) for The Drinks Trust.
This year’s event will run from 29 April to 27 May, comprising five themed sessions centred around whisky.
The contents of each tasting pack for each session, along with the presenters, will once again remain secret until the day of the event.
Furthermore, this year’s festival will feature five ‘golden tickets’, which will be hidden at random in the tasting packs. Those who find a golden ticket will be offered the chance to choose a full bottle of whisky from their tasting.
Becky Paskin, co-founder of Our Whisky, said: “We want to recreate the anticipation and excitement of walking into a real-life masterclass, while helping everyone explore whisky without preconceived expectations. It’s a chance to discover new expressions whisky lovers of all levels may have otherwise overlooked.
“Over 16,000 people joined us for our first event, with 200 tasting packs sold. It was so popular that this year we’ve increased the number of sessions and made more tickets available.
“We have an incredible line-up of 25 whiskies, including some our guests will not have tasted before.”
Our Whisky has also teamed up with Milroy’s of Soho to offer attendees an exclusive discount on bottles included in the festival.
Ross Carter, CEO of The Drinks Trust, added: “Last year this event was a great success raising awareness and money for The Drinks Trust and we hope that this year will be even more successful.
“The Drinks Trust is funded by industry donor businesses and by the fundraising efforts of its community. We are very grateful for this support, which enables us to support drinks industry people.”
Tickets for the Our Whisky Virtual Festival are available to buy now from ourwhisky.com, priced at £30 (US$41.50) per session. Each ticket includes a tasting pack of five 30ml samples. Samples can only be sent to those living in the UK.
Sessions will be streamed live at 7pm BST on each date on Our Whisky’s Facebook, Twitter and YouTube accounts.
Earlier this year, The Drinks Trust appointed Enotria & Coe CEO Troy Christensen chair of the board of trustees and welcomed three new patrons.
