Walsh Whiskey targets Asia with new distributors

Ireland’s Walsh Whiskey Distillery has appointed five new distributors in Asia for its Writers’ Tears and The Irishman brands.

Irish whiskey brands The Irishman and Writers’ Tears have entered five new Asian markets

County Carlow-based Walsh Whiskey had primarily focused its growth in Europe and North America, but is now targeting Asia as the region emerges from the Covid-19 lockdown period.

“Being a European company of Irish heritage, it made sense to build out our offering in Europe and North America first,” said founder Bernard Walsh.

“Clearly our whiskeys are now proven in the super-premium Irish whiskey category in both Europe and North America, and that solid base now enables us to expand, with confidence, into Asia and Eastern Europe.”

The Irish whiskey producer’s brands were already present in Malaysia through distributor Fortier Wines and Spirits.

Writers’ Tears and The Irishman Irish whiskey brands will now be available in Japan through Lead Off Japan, in South Korea through Taesan Liquor, in Taiwan through Dong Hsun Hsin, in Singapore through Original Whiskeys and in Sri Lanka through Signature Ceylon Beverages.

Walsh added: “We look to build strong, dynamic, mutual partnerships in each of the markets that we enter, and Asia is no different.

“We have established new partnerships and upgraded others in the region so that we now have representation in six key Asian markets overall and we will add more in the next few years.”

In January last year, Walsh Whiskey Distillery and Italian drinks group Illva Saronno ended their joint venture following a dispute over the future direction of the business.
