Tanqueray creates limited edition Bloomsbury gin
By Annie HayesDiageo has launched a limited edition “juniper-forward” Tanqueray Bloomsbury gin, inspired by a recipe from the 1880s.
The limited edition recipe dates back to the 1880sMaster distiller Tom Nichol drew inspiration from a recipe by Charles Tanqueray’s son, Charles Waugh Tanqueray, who took over the business at the age of 20 after the death of his father.
His Tanqueray Bloomsbury recipe dates back to the 1880s, when the distillery was located in Bloomsbury, London.
The new edition offers “prominent notes of Tuscan juniper”, blended with additional botanicals such as coriander, angelica, winter savoury and cassia bark.
“I wanted to make something that was completely different from our other limited editions and with this gin I do feel we have achieved that. It is very inspirational to work with an original Tanqueray family recipe, and for it to taste this good,” said Nichol.
The bottle will feature a signature of Charles Waugh Tanqueray, alongside a marque bearing his initials.
There are 100,000 bottles available at an RRP of US$32.99.
Nichol was recently honoured with The Gin Guild’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and announced he will retire this summer after 42 years in the industry.
The brand’s latest variant was Tanqueray Malacca Spiced Gin, which was released in 2013.
