Lucas Bols kicks off cocktail contest

The Bols Cocktail Battle in North America has launched to showcase ‘bold, visually driven cocktails’ and modern drinking occasions.

Bartenders must use at least one Lucas Bols liqueur in their recipe

The North America leg is open to bartenders in both the US and Canada.

Entrants must create an original cocktail inspired by the theme of ‘neon nights’ using the Bols Liqueurs portfolio. Drinks are expected to ‘push the boundaries’ of flavour, colour and presentation.

Three winners will be selected, two from the US and one from Canada. These competitors will go on to represent North America as part of the global Bols Cocktail Battle.

There are also national legs for bartenders in Argentina, Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Hungary, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the UK and Vietnam.

Entries have closed for Germany and Ireland.

Each winner of the regional finals will win an expenses-paid trip to the Netherlands in September to visit the home of Lucas Bols.

Bartenders can submit their cocktails via Difford’s Guide until 31 May. Finalists will be announced in June, with the winners chosen in July.

Submissions must include a cocktail name, a recipe featuring at least 20ml of one Bols Liqueur, and a photo. Each cocktail should represent a decade, from the 1960s to the 2010s.

Lucas Bols is currently in a new, premium era following the appointment of Frank Cocx as CEO.

The new direction included a relaunch of Bols Blue 1575, with a new bottle design, labelling and focus.
