Buffalo Trace unveils most remote tasting room in US
By Rupert HohwielerKentucky distillery Buffalo Trace is offering consumers the chance to sample its Bourbon at a tasting room located on the open plains of Wyoming, surrounded by herds of wild buffalo.

The distillery has partnered with Buffalo Field Campaign on the initiative, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to preserving and protecting the last few wild buffalo in the US, and their natural habitat in the Greater Yellowstone ecosystem.
Titled Perfectly Untamed, the experience is headlined by a floor-to-ceiling glass-walled tasting room remotely located on the plains of Wyoming, with full views of roaming buffalo.
The experience is limited to six reservations, with each accommodating two guests: the primary registrant and their chosen companion.
The two-hour tastings will be privately guided by Freddie Johnson, Buffalo Trace’s VIP visitor lead and a Bourbon Hall of Fame inductee.
The tastings will also include curated cocktails crafted at the room’s fully private bar.
Scheduled to take place in spring next year, the tastings will be held over two days with three sessions planned on each.
Consumers aged 21 and above can register their interest at untamed.buffalotracedistillery.com.
Once registration is confirmed, successful guests will be contacted and participation will be finalised after a US$500 donation to the Buffalo Field Campaign has been received.
Guests will also receive US$1,000 for travel expenses and curated lodging recommendations for their journey.
Andrew Duncan, Buffalo Trace global brand director, said: “Our distillery was founded where the buffalo crossed the Kentucky river, and our flagship Bourbon pays tribute to the paths they carved around the US frontier.
“With Perfectly Untamed, we set out to build more than a tasting room – we wanted to build a place where time could stand still. Deep in the perfectly untamed Wyoming wilderness, guests will sip as buffalo roam free, a reminder that there is still room for power, determination, and a little reflection.”
Justine Sanchez, Buffalo Field Campaign president of the board of directors, added: “We’re proud to continue our collaboration with Buffalo Trace in a way that highlights not just the beauty of wild bison country, but the importance of public awareness and preservation of the habitat.
“This partnership reflects a shared commitment to protecting America’s last wild buffalo.”
Last month, Buffalo Trace announced it had officially filled its nine-millionth barrel of Bourbon since Prohibition.
While not quite as remote as Perfectly Untamed, the Sazerac-owned distillery also brought tasting experiences to four US cities in October.
