Tatratea launches 35% Original Light
By Rupert HohwielerSlovak spirit Tatratea has created a light version of its flagship tea-based herbal liqueur, bottled at 35% ABV.

The expression’s ingredients are the same as the brand’s 52% Original liqueur – mountain water from the High Tatras, natural extracts from herbs and black tea, and fruit distillates and juices – but with a lower alcohol and sugar content.
The brand said ‘demand for a smoother yet still authentic version was undeniable’, with many consumers looking for lighter versions of their favourite drinks, in line with healthier lifestyle and mindful drinking choices.
CEO Erik Semaňák said: “When we launched Tatratea 52% Original in 2004, it marked the beginning of a unique story. This product became the icon of our brand – a symbol of originality, quality, and unmistakable taste. Today, I’m delighted to introduce its younger sibling – Tatratea 35% Original Light.
“This new addition brings everything we love about the black Tatratea – its characteristic tea-herbal flavor and balance – while catering to those who prefer a lighter version with reduced alcohol and sugar content.

“Tatratea 35% Original Light is my go-to for days when I want to enjoy Tatratea in a gentler form. Neat, with an ice cube, or as the base of a refreshing drink – it always surprises me with its lightness and preserved depth of flavor. If you’re a fan of our iconic 52% Original, you’ll fall in love with this Light version just as I did. It’s proof that even a classic can take on a new dimension while staying true to its roots.”
The brand hopes 35% Original Light will provide an entry point for those who want to explore Tatratea’s range at a lower alcohol volume, while also serving as a versatile base for creating refreshing mixed drinks.
One of the brand’s signature serves is the Teato, which featured in our top cocktail recipes for April.
In February, The Spirits Business travelled to Slovakia – to the brand’s base in Kežmarok – to get a first-hand account of how it produces its tea-based herbal liqueurs.
The brand was also at ProWein in March, where it sought to expand distribution into new markets and strengthen its presence in Germany.
The portfolio now comprises 16 expressions, including high-strength variants such as 72% Outlaw and smoother flavour profiles like 22% Coconut and 32% Citrus.
