Made with Cocui Trelease agave, the tradition of making cocuy in Venezuela dates back to pre‐Columbian times when indigenous communities used the agave for ceremonial and medicinal purposes.

With the growing interest towards agave spirits outside Tequila and mezcal, cocuy is finally making its way to international markets.

As the first of its kind to be launched in the US, the market debut is seen as a pivotal step not only for Cocuy Saroche but also for the traditional Venezuelan spirit.

In the last quarter of 2024, DUG made its first shipment of cocuy to the United States, establishing an initial presence in South Florida through a partnership with Breakthru Beverage Group.

José Rafael Ballesteros Meléndez, CEO of DUG Group, commented: “This is just the beginning of a new chapter for our brand. We are committed to continuing to grow and expand our presence in the US, sharing the authenticity and unique character of our cocuy with more consumers.”

In addition to Florida and other US states, the brand is committed to strengthening its distribution network, connecting with new audiences, and sharing the story of Venezuelan cocuy internationally as ambassadors of the spirit.

Earlier this year, Cocuy Saroche announced its launch in Italy in partnership with Compagnia dei Caraibi.

DUG Group operates ‘one of the most versatile distilleries’ in South America, Destilerías Unidas SA (DUSA), famous for its Diplomatico rums.
