Rémy Martin marks Year of the Snake

To celebrate the lunar Year of the Snake, Cognac house Rémy Martin has partnered with contemporary Chinese artist Huang Yuxing to create a festive series of bottles.

The design of each bottle is inspired by Yuxing’s vibrant painting Majestic Serpentine

The Rémy Martin x Huang Yuxing gift collection features collectible limited edition presentations of the Cognac brand’s XO and 1738 Accord Royal expressions.

The design of each is inspired by Yuxing’s vibrant painting Majestic Serpentine, which brings its ‘positive energy’ to the Rémy Martin Lunar New Year limited edition products.

Amaury Vinclet, global executive director for Rémy Martin, told The Spirits Business: “The Year of the Snake brings good fortune, authority, longevity, and wisdom – values that Rémy Martin long keeps at the centre of its values.

“For this Lunar New Year, we are honoured to collaborate with contemporary artist Huang Yuxing, whose bold and dynamic style captures the spirit of celebration and new beginnings. Through his vibrant interpretation, Majestic Serpentine, Rémy Martin brings an exclusive artistic offering to this festive season.

“This limited edition design graces our Rémy Martin XO and 1738 Accord Royal bottles, creating a meaningful connection between tradition and modern artistry to enrich the Lunar New Year festivities.”

Yuxing’s artwork brings the new zodiac creature to Rémy Martin’s Cognac with a landscape drawing on the multitude of aromas and richness of the Cognac terroir, beautifully capturing the essence of nature’s brilliance.

At the heart of the painting is a serpent. In an ‘explosion of vibrant colours’, the serpent winds upwards through mountains and hills, representing the ‘exceptional terroir’ of Grande and Petite Champagne in Cognac where Rémy Martin exclusively sources its grapes.

The artist’s signature bubbles echo the fruits at the centre of the Cognac-making process, while the flowing river is said to symbolise a legacy of ‘outstanding’ eaux-de-vie from the two regions of Cognac, prized for their elegance and ageing potential, which Rémy Martin’s says is key to its quality.

The serpent’s upward motion draws on the house’s continuous aim to reach ‘new heights’, while the jewel-like colours reflect the ‘rich, multi-facetted aromas’ that characterise Rémy Martin’s Cognacs, as well as the vibrant festivities of the Lunar New Year.

Yuxing noted that he was “honoured to create the Majestic Serpentine for Rémy Martin in celebration of the Lunar New Year, infusing the rich symbolism of the Year of the Snake with the brand’s enduring legacy of craftsmanship.

“Rémy Martin has always been a part of my personal celebrations, symbolising the unity of friends and family, and the sharing of traditions. Through our partnership, we honour the beauty of the Rémy Martin terroirs, while embracing the vibrant energy and good fortune of the new year.”

In addition to the limited edition packaging, the brand has created two cocktails to celebrate the festivities.

The Mile High, with its base of Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal, is a reimagining of the Paper Plane cocktail first created by Sam Ross in New York City. The bittersweet caramel and herbal complexity of amaro and Aperol are said to amplify the rich, oaky character of the Cognac.

To make it, add equal parts Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal, Nonino Quintessentia amaro, Aperol, and lemon juice into a shaker and top with ice before shaking vigorously. Strain twice into a chilled coupe glass and serve with a paper plane or red envelope.

Meanwhile The XO Fu Dao showcases the ‘harmonious balance’ of Rémy Martin XO, magnified by the serpent’s signature contrasts of passion and calm through the ritual of fire and ice.

To make it, pour Rémy Martin XO into a glass over an ice cube. Then express an orange zest over the glass between thumb and finger, while setting the zest alight.

The Rémy Martin Lunar New Year Collection 2025 is available in selected points of sale at the recommended retail price of US$224.99 for Rémy Martin XO, and US$64.99 for Rémy Martin 1738 Accord Royal.

The Lunar New Year 2025 begins on 29 January. For more limited edition releases to mark the occasion, check out our latest roundup.
