Kwãnt and Nikka create omakase experience
London bar Kwãnt Mayfair and Japanese brand Nikka have joined forces to offer an intimate omakase experience that launches this month (January).
The omakase experience, which translates to ‘I leave the details up to you’, is inspired by Kwãnt owner Erik Lorincz’s love of fine dining and his extensive travels in Japan, where the dining concept originated.
The experience takes place exclusively at Mayfair-based Kwãnt’s bespoke six-seat bar counter, with only one seating available per night from 6pm, Thursday to Saturday.
The reservation-only 90-minute experience offers guests a ‘flavour journey’ that includes five miniature cocktails spotlighting Nikka’s range of spirits, plus two bite-sized food pairings by chef Joni Ketonen, who cut his teeth at three-Michelin-starred The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire, and London’s St John.
Priced at £80 (US$99) per person, the Omakase menu includes cocktails such as the Urchin, made with Nikka Coffey Gin, sea urchin, KAY sake, Seasn light, and chive oil, as well as the Tomato – a savoury serve that features Nikka Taketsuru single malt whisky, tomato, pickled brine and Seedlip Garden.
Meanwhile Nikka Miyagikyo single malt forms the base of Beetroot – another cocktail with savoury and umami notes – which is joined by miso, beetroot, maple verjus, Seasn Dark, and an aged sake.
Nikka is the first partner for this unique experience, which will run from tomorrow (9 January) until 31 March 2025.
Bookings for the experience are to be made online via kwantmayfair@icloud.com.
Kwãnt first opened on London’s Heddon Street in 2019, but closed in 2021 after its sister restaurant and lease partner, Momo, went into liquidation. The bar reopened its new permanent bricks-and-mortar venue in 2023.
Unlike the original venue, which was located in a basement, this new site operates on the ground floor, with a large glass frontage that offers lots of natural light.
Kwãnt Mayfair received one Pin in the inaugural list for The Pinnacle Guide, which was published in May 2024.
