The first edition of IBW will take place on 20-27 February 2025 and will be divided into two parts: Beverage Week (21-25 February) and the India Bar Summit (26-27 February).

The event is co-founded by Vikram Achanta, Minakshi Singh, and Yangdup Lama, held in conjunction with Hanna Lee Communications’ Worldwide Bartender Week.

The Handshake Grant, which the brand claims is the ‘first of its kind in the country’, will offer financial support to 100 bartenders, covering travel and accommodation expenses for the India Bar Summit.

The programme is designed to make the summit ‘more accessible to talented bartenders across the country, ensuring inclusivity and regional representation while placing a strong emphasis on gender diversity’.

Speaking to The Spirits Business about the grant, Achanta said the team are looking for “the most deserving candidates selected on a pan-India basis. We’re looking at casting the net far and wide to get people from the furthest corners of the country.”

Candidates not selected to receive a grant may also attend the event for free as volunteers.

The Handshake Grant is open to bartenders aged 18-30 currently working in India with a minimum of a year’s professional experience.

To apply, candidates must fill out an online form, listing their experience and motivations to attend the event, as well as a cocktail reel submission to showcase their creativity in mixology.

Recipients will be selected based on regional representation, technical expertise and passion for bartending, with social media creativity also encouraged.
