DP World donates £26,000 to UK charities

DP World’s logistics hubs in Southampton and London Gateway have donated £26,000 (US$32,000) to six local charities in Essex and Hampshire.

DP World Charity Donation
A total of £26,000 (US$32,000) in donations were given to hospices and meal charities

The donations were made following the annual ‘Great Place to Work’ survey, where DP World contributed to a designated charity for each completed employee response.

Charmain Browning, people director of DP World South UK, said: “We are proud to share that, following the Great Place to Work survey, we will be donating more than £26,000 (US$32,000) to support a selection of incredible local charities. Thanks to staff completing the survey, the donations will make a meaningful impact on the communities we serve while reinforcing our commitment to creating an exceptional workplace.”

Little Haven’s Hospice in Essex and Mountbatten Hampshire received the largest donations of £7,425 (US$9,150) and £5,950 (US$7,335) respectively, followed by Solent Mind and South East and Central Essex (SECE) Mind, which received a combined share of £7,275 (US$8,970).

Rossella Inguscio, senior corporate fundraiser at Little Haven’s Hospice, stated: “We have now finished our Christmas campaign and set the ambitious goal of raising £223,727 (US$275,800) to fund 31 days of care throughout December. This ensures we can say ‘yes’ to everyone who needs us every single day. DP World’s donation arrived at such a critical time, and we are extremely grateful for their support.”

Caitlyn Sherry, corporate partnerships manager at Mountbatten Hampshire, said: “This year, hospices like ours are facing a funding crisis. Mountbatten’s Southampton-based hospice and 24/7 community services reach more than 1,600 people across Hampshire daily – whether in their homes or through our inpatient unit.

“While we receive a third of our funding from the NHS, this amount has not increased with inflation, and our costs are rising. This makes community funding and donations more critical than ever. This donation by DP World could fund a nurse for 21 12-hour night shifts, which is incredibly important for the patients and families who need this. Thank you.”

Long-time DP World charitable partners FareShare and Thurrock Foodbank each received £5,575 (US$6,870), which will help continue their work distributing thousands of meals to those in need annually.

The announcement follows two separate charitable donations from DP World Southampton employees, including £5,000 (US$6,165) to the Southampton Toy Appeal, which helps to provide Christmas presents to around 300 children and families across the region.

Furthermore, £2,000 (US$2,465) was donated to the Sunday Lunch Project, which supports local communities by offering a free hot meal, dessert, and hot drink every Sunday in Woolston and St Deny’s.

Last month, DP World donated the equivalent of 3,000 meals to local food distribution charities.

Last year, DP World launched a carbon reduction programme at its UK hubs and announced that it had removed more than 60,000 trucks from UK roads as part of the Modal Shift scheme.
