‘World’s first’ PX-finished coffee liqueur launches
Cold brew coffee liqueur brand Café Solo has released an expression finished in a Pedro Ximénez (PX) Sherry cask – said to be the first of its kind.
PX grapes are noted for their sweetness and the finish of Café Solo’s coffee liqueur in this type of cask has imparted a ‘residual sweetness and rich, dried-fruit notes’, the brand said.
Described as ‘indulgent and dessert-like’, its further profile offers rich toffee, fig, walnut and lemon.
Additionally, the brand noted that it will release more cask-finished coffee liqueurs in the future as part of a new range.
Commenting on the release of Café Solo PX, brand manager Holly Harwood said: “We are delighted to launch our first Café Solo cask edition, which was inspired by an evening of enjoying delicious Espresso Martinis with added PX Sherry.
“We sourced our casks from Jerez, Spain, and I was lucky enough to witness the incredible craftsmanship at the Antonio Páez Lobato cooperage.
“PX Sherry offers a wonderfully rich profile, and the combination of coffee with notes of dried fruit and caramel is truly something you need to try.”
The liqueur retails for £32 (US$40), is vegan-friendly and sits at 25% ABV.
It recommended on the rocks, poured over ice cream or in a Café Solo PX-Presso Martini. The recipe for the latter is as follows: add 60ml Café Solo PX Cask, 30ml espresso and 30ml vodka to a cocktail shaker with ice, shake and pour into a coupe glass.
Café Solo’s flagship product is its Original Coffee Liqueur, which is made with espresso-strength coffee and mixed with premium vodka and British sugar beet.
The brand also moved into the ready-to-drink category earlier this year with the release of a canned Espresso Martini.
The Spirits Business recently charted the rise of cream liqueurs, as drinkers choose to indulge from home and cocktails such as the Espresso Martini soar in popularity.
