White Peak finishes whisky in English oak

Derbyshire distillery White Peak has launched limited edition Wire Works whisky aged in English oak, as its final release of 2024.

The new expression represents the first limited edition release from the distillery outside its core line.

White Peak co-founder Max Vaughan said: “This is a distillery-first for us, celebrating our commitment to craft, provenance and flavour. We invite our distillery friends and supporters to unplug from the rush and join us for this unique release.

“Wire Works Whisky English Oak is our opportunity to provide support to our bricks-and-mortar UK stockists on Small Business Saturday and into the festive season, encouraging people to visit their local high street and whisky retailer.”

The whisky is made with the distillery’s lightly peated spirit and aged in first-fill ex-Bourbon casks, followed by nine months in a virgin English oak quarter cask coopered by Jensons in Yorkshire.

With an ABV of 54.3%, the final spirit offers notes of dark chocolate, dried fruits, walnuts and orange oil.

For Distillery founders Claire and Max Vaughan, the project has been driven by the community and a high street aspect.

Claire said: “For our special final release of 2024, we want to celebrate the in-person passion, knowledge, and expertise of our high-street retail partners who bring our products to life, transforming a simple transaction into a meaningful experience.”

Limited to just 129 bottles, Wire Works English Oak will be available from 30 November at established retailers around the UK and directly from the distillery shop. The RRP is £125 (US$131).

White Peak Distillery will share the locations of partner stockists through its mailing list and social media channels the week before Black Friday (29 November).

Earlier this year, the distillery released an expression matured in ex-Bourbon barrels and a cask strength edition of its core range Carudo whisky.
