Perola: making 100% agave Tequila more accessible
Distributor Perola – Fine Spirits is hoping to make 100% agave Topanito Tequila Blanco the house-pour option for the on-trade.
Founded in 2010, Perola is a distributor and importer of spirits, most of which hail from Latin America. The company is extremely focused on the global bar scene, as managing director Arno Schmid-Egger revealed at this year’s Bar Convent Berlin (BCB) trade show.
During BCB, the distributor spotlighted the portfolio of its 100% agave spirits brand Topanito.
The Topanito range comprises everything from mezcal artisanal Espadín to añejo Tequila and agave syrup.
Schmid-Egger said: “Our main SKU for the Topanito brand is the Blanco Tequila, bottled at 40% ABV. This is a classic 100% agave Tequila – very smooth, yet it still stands out in a drink.
“So, what we are aiming for with Topanito is to be an affordable house-pour brand but for 100% agave Tequila, to enable bartenders to trade up from using previously mixto Tequila [while] still having reasonable value and reasonable pricing. This has been our best-seller.”
Schmid-Egger went into further detail about the strengths of Topanito during our conversation at BCB, which is available to watch via the video below. He covers Tequila and mezcal in depth, looking at breaking out of being a “niche” category, playing to the premiumisation trend.
