Maverick Drinks co-founder Michael Vachon leaves
By Melita KielyMichael Vachon, co-founder of the UK’s first distributor dedicated to craft spirits, Maverick Drinks, will depart the company after 11 years.

Maverick Drinks launched in 2013 and has garnered numerous awards, including winning Distributor of the Year at The Spirits Business Awards in 2023.
Vachon made the decision to leave the company to focus on his Citizens of Soil business.
“Maverick Drinks has always been more than just a distributor,” said Vachon. “We wanted it to be a disruptor and believed in adding value in everything we do – whether it’s building up the brands we work with, participating in conversations that shape our industry, or supporting our team’s professional growth.
“Maverick Drinks has matured into one of most prominent distributors in the UK, and as I leave to focus on my own startup – Citizens of Soil – which is already making a huge impact in the olive oil category, I know Maverick will continue to cement that reputation.
“Once again under the ownership of its original founder, I know the business is in good hands, and will continue to go from strength to strength.”
Maverick Drinks will continue to be led by Juan-Marc Correia, sales director at Atom Group, parent firm of Maverick Drinks, and his team.
Justin Petszaft, founder and CEO of Atom Group, said: “I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Michael over the past 11 years. His passion for spirits is unrivalled, as is his ability to turn business relationships into true friendships.
“Michael has had a profound effect on Maverick and the wider Atom group, and I couldn’t be more proud of what he and the team built together.
“As Michael embarks on his next journey as the founder of his own company, I have no doubt that great things are in store, and that this next journey will be at least as remarkable as the last.”
